There’s a holy hush when you walk into a sacred space. A quietness that comes upon us naturally without direction or warning or librarian-shushing.

It happens at life’s ground zeroes…the nursery in the still of night when the baby finally sleeps. The shore as the sun begins peeking over the horizon. The freshly upturned earth of a final resting place. The snow capped mountain that appears around the bend. The commemoration of a national mourning. The sanctuary dimly lit before the church arrives.

We tread lightly in these places, almost as if we didn’t belong. But His welcome tells us different,

Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into His glorious presence without a single fault. Jude 24 NLT

He keeps us from falling away.

He brings us in with great joy.

He welcomes us without a single fault.

And so the holy hush doesn’t rule out boldness. Quietly entering His presence doesn’t equal timidity. Reverence for His greatness doesn’t mean we can’t look Him in the eye. He has saved us, forgiven us, and welcomed us joyfully.

Let us boldly enter into His unsurpassed presence.

Thanks for creating community here with us! The Big Red Sofa Series is about the things I see in life that make me go hmmmm. What God teaches me in scripture. The ordinary things that God can use to drive home spiritual lessons. The questions I sometimes ask. The stories we can all share. So pull up a cushion and join me on the sofa. I’d love to hear from you!
