The Prayer of Hannah

My heart rejoices in the Lord;
    in the Lord my horn is lifted high.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
    for I delight in your deliverance.

There is no one holy like the Lord;
    there is no one besides you;
    there is no Rock like our God.

I Samuel 2:1-2

No Rock Like Our God

These verses are the beginning of Hannah’s prayer in I Samuel when she dedicates her only son to God and leaves him with the priest. Hannah had prayed fervently for a child and she promised to dedicate the child to God if he answered her prayer. Since she was a woman of her word, Hannah keeps her promise.

But leaving her boy must have been one of the hardest thing she ever had to do. Yet, she rejoices in the Lord, takes delight in his deliverance, and proclaims he is the rock. Sometimes when we are in agony over a situation, the best thing to do is turn to praise.

It helps us remember that God is indeed our rock and that he is in control of everything that touches our hearts and lives. There has to be great comfort in that reminder.
