weekend confessions

Welcome to the Big Red Sofa! So glad you could join me today.

They say confession is good for the soul…whoever they are. I tend to agree with them however, and so I thought this might be a good time to make a few weekend confessions.

I didn’t make my bed.

That picture probably had you wondering, didn’t it? The truth is there is nothing really bad about this confession except that I normally make my bed every day…almost as soon as I get out of it. But on Sunday, I decided to throw caution to the wind and leave it unmade. It’s good to cut yourself some slack on your own self-imposed rules sometimes, right?

I didn’t do any homework.

While it’s true that this was my week off from school and the new semester starts today, I felt like I should get a jump start on the reading. So I watched TV until the feeling passed. Because, really, do I have to be reading something every minute of every day?

I didn’t hit my step goal on either day – Saturday or Sunday.

Now Sunday is a rest day so I rarely worry about steps on that day. I did work out on Saturday and usually try to do enough to hit my step goal. But not this weekend. For some reason, working out seemed like enough, so I just left it alone. Now where is that TV remote?

It would probably be pretty easy to get down about the things I didn’t do this weekend. Except there were some things I did do, like writing a little, finalizing my sermon prep for Sunday, grocery shopping, and prepping some food for this week. Somehow that seemed to be about all I could manage.

As a result, I’ve decided that I should look at each weekend just like this one. While some things got done, others didn’t, and that’s okay.

Because this morning, I was ready to hit the ground running. Made the bed, exercised, got my food together to take to work, and got out the door on time for my first appointment. It just feels good to have all the pieces fall into place on a Monday morning.

It felt equally good to just hang loose over the weekend though. Sometimes you just gotta do that.

Thanks for creating community here with us! The Big Red Sofa Series is about the things I see in life that make me go hmmmm. What God teaches me in scripture. The ordinary things that God can use to drive home spiritual lessons. The questions I sometimes ask. The stories we can all share. So pull up a cushion and join me on the sofa. I’d love to hear from you!
