It has been hot on the mountain recently…more humid than normal, especially for June. Our kids are out of school and enjoying their clubs, outings, and trips. It reminds me of my kids’ summer days when sleeping in was the most important thing on the agenda each day.

So in honor of summer, I thought we’d just chat about what we are up to…or what has made us laugh recently…or what good summer reads we’ve found!

Yesterday morning after our first church service, I was talking with our pastor’s wife (who is also my supervisor at work), and we heard this strange little cry. We looked at each other wondering if it was a bird, a cat, or a baby. Baby it was! A sweet mama was walking around outside consoling her three-month old son, who had gotten quite bored in church. The cool part was spending a few minutes with this precious new mother, and hopefully offering her some encouragement. When we parted ways, she thanked us for talking with her. It only takes a few minutes to encourage someone.

I spent the weekend running errands, working on decorations for my granddaughter’s birthday party coming up this next weekend, doing schoolwork, and working on some writing projects. I also procrastinated on finishing my final paper for my first summer school class. And I should probably admit that I’m binge watching The Gilmore Girls, which is a good way to spend the procrastination hours. It’s always good to find something that you enjoy to help you unwind.

If you are reading this early on Monday morning, I just want you to know that I’m probably exercising as you are reading. It’s past time for me to get back on the exercise wagon again. And now that my back has recuperated sufficiently to be able to work out, there’s no time like the present, right? Prayers for my stamina, perseverance and sore muscles will be appreciated. It’s always important to take care of ourselves.

It’s been a good summertime weekend. Long days, a short agenda, and time to relax. Just the way summer days should be.

How was your weekend?

Thanks for creating community here with us! The Big Red Sofa Series is about the things I see in life that make me go hmmmm. What God teaches me in scripture. The ordinary things that God can use to drive home spiritual lessons. The questions I sometimes ask. The stories we can all share. So pull up a cushion and join me on the sofa. I’d love to hear from you!
